3 New Green Ways To Use Vinegar

by Caroline Dooner on May 22, 2012

Did you know that besides being a delicious and healthy condiment, vinegar is a green, mean cleaning machine with endless uses? I always knew it could be used for cleaning, but when adding vinegar to our shotty dishwasher became the only way to give them a shine, I began researching all the other ways to use vinegar.

White Distilled Vinegar is an excellent cleaning product to use instead of harsh commercial cleaners filled with dangerous chemicals. But besides mopping and wiping, Here are five uses for vinegar that you may not have thought of before:

1. Use Vinegar in the Garden

Besides using it for the obvious use of cleaning anything outdoor that needs it, you can use vinegar to add acidity to the soil for certain acid-loving plants. It can be used to safely and humanely ward off rabbits and other menaces from eating your plants.

2. Use Vinegar in Your Laundry

Vinegar is an effective way to remove stains and odors. You can whiten clothes by boiling them and letting them sit overnight. You can add ½ cup of vinegar to your wash to remove lint. And use it directly on tough stains like mustard and tomato sauce before washing for removal.

3. Use Vinegar as a Health & Beauty Tonic

Unfiltered apple cider vinegar is touted as a fabulous health booster. But apply white vinegar topically, and it can reduce itching from insect stings. I can also act as a natural toner for your face when diluted. It can also remove foot or breath odor if used on a weekly basis to kill germs!

You can find many more uses listed on VinegarTips.com . So pick up a gallon of vinegar on the cheap and start putting it to use!
